Pedestrian Accident Statistics

While driving, more people are injured or killed by pedestrians and motorcycle riders. In the event of an accident, they aren’t adequately protected.

Sadly, the number of people who are killed or injured while walking has increased significantly. Although traffic-related deaths dropped by 14% between 2007 and 2016, more people were killed walking than driving.

In the United States, 5,977 pedestrians were killed last year. An estimated one person dies every 88 minutes, according to this estimate. In 2017, more than 137,000 non-fatal pedestrian injuries were treated in emergency rooms across the United States.

Compared to other states, California has a disproportionately high number of pedestrian deaths and serious injuries. Last year, there were 893 people killed and 14,000 injured while walking in California.

Driver negligence, such as speeding or failing to yield the right of way, is to blame for the vast majority of pedestrian accidents. Advice from an experienced lawyer is essential in these kinds of cases.
