According to the authorities, an assistant fire chief with the Collegeville Fire District in San Joaquin County was killed in a high-speed suspected DUI crash Saturday, June 11, 2022.
According to the CHP, the fatal crash transpired at around 9:15 p.m. on Jack Tone Road, north of Mariposa Road.
The California Highway Patrol confirmed that Kurt P. died in the head-on collision last Saturday.
Several witnesses told CHP that the suspected DUI driver from Ripon was speeding at over 100 mph and crossing double yellow lines while passing several vehicles.
According to the CHP, the 20-year-old collided head-on with Pettitt’s vehicle.
Pettitt, his passenger, and their two dogs were all thrown out of the vehicle. According to authorities, Pettitt was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. With moderate injuries, the passenger was rushed to the hospital.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the 20-year-old driver was arrested.
The cause of the collision is still unknown.
