According to Petaluma police, a reckless driver struck a pedestrian, then crashed into a vehicle, a pole, and a tree, punching a witness and kicking a police officer in Sonoma County on Saturday, June 11, 2022.
The crash occurred at 11:09 p.m. at the intersection of Kentucky and Washington streets for a traffic collision.
The driver of the vehicle in which the man was struck attempted to flee the scene and collided with two other vehicles.
After they sorted out the mess, police discovered that Evan W., 22, was driving a grey BMW northbound, approaching the crosswalk in the 100 block of Main Street.
According to police, Weise accelerated quickly and collided with a pedestrian who was attempting to cross the street in the crosswalk.
Authorities suspect that Weise continued northbound on Kentucky, collided with a vehicle at the intersection of Washington, and then veered off the road, colliding with a pole and a tree.
According to police, the vehicle Weise collided with fled the scene, causing a collision with two other uninvolved vehicles on Washington. Witnesses allegedly tried to help Weise, but he allegedly returned the favor by punching one of them.
Officers then attempted to take Weiss into custody and were unsurprised when he refused. He was arrested and placed in a restraint device after allegedly kicking an officer.
Weise, according to police, was under the influence of drugs, according to a statement released Sunday morning.
According to police, he was taken to the hospital, as was the pedestrian, who had non-life-threatening injuries.
Weiss was arrested at the Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of DUI causing an injury, hit and run causing an injury, battery, and assault on a police officer after being medically cleared at the hospital.
