Big Rig Accident Statistics
Although semi-trucks are a common term for large commercial vehicles, it is only one of many. Trucks, also known as “big rigs,” include tractor-trailers, semi-trailers, and 18-wheelers.
People die in tractor-trailer accidents because more people also die in other traffic accidents. Because trucks are larger than other vehicles, this is the case. Big rigs require more stopping area as they grow in size. To stop, it requires 20% to 40% additional space when it’s completely laden.
Every 15 minutes, a semi-truck accident kills one person in the United States of America. In the United States, about 500,000 trucking accidents happen, and about 5,000 drivers are killed.
In California, several big rigs transport a lot of freight. More than 78% of Californians rely on large trucks to transport their goods.
Truck accidents kill about 113 people and injure about 3,000 people in California each year. Every year, between 200 and 300 persons lose their lives in truck accidents in California.
A semi-blind truck’s area must be avoided by drivers, who must leave an adequate amount of stopping distance between their vehicle and a semi-truck.
