A passenger died, and another passenger sustained major injuries, while two drivers sustained minor to moderate injuries after a three-vehicle collision in Newhall, Santa Clarita, on Monday evening, June 19, 2023.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred on Highway 14, north of Escondido Canyon Road, within the center median, at around 8:38 p.m.
A 2022 Honda Civic was traveling northbound on the highway when it struck a 2006 Honda Accord that was disabled in the center median, causing another collision with a 2017 Jaguar XJ.
A 61-year-old passenger of the Accord died while its other passenger, aged 62, and the driver, aged 37, sustained major and moderate injuries and were brought to separate hospitals. The driver of the Jaguar, aged 58, sustained minor injuries and did not request to be transported to a hospital.
The driver of the Civic had no injuries and was arrested under suspicion of DUI.
Authorities released no information on the identities of the victims and the suspect pending their investigation.
