[06-26-2022] San Diego County, CA - Overturned Vehicle Fatally Struck Pedestrian Walking on Freeway on Interstate 8According to the California Highway Patrol officials, a man walking was hit and killed by a vehicle overturned on a San Diego-area freeway due to a crash Sunday, June 26, 2022.

According to the CHP news release, the crash transpired at approximately 3:15 p.m. The 57-year-old San Diego man was walking in the traffic lanes of westbound Interstate 8 near Waring Road.

To avoid hitting the man walking on the freeway, the driver of a white Mercedes-Benz sedan braked when she spotted him.

According to police, a woman driving a white Chevrolet SUV struck the Mercedes at that time from behind, causing the Chevrolet to flip over and strike the male pedestrian.

Due to his injuries from the collision, the man was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors later declared him dead. According to CHP, the driver of the Chevrolet sustained only minor injuries, while the driver of the Mercedes escaped unharmed.

According to the police, it is currently unknown whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the collision.

Officials stated that the circumstances surrounding the collision are still being investigated. Still, they did not mention whether a cause for the man’s behavior in the freeway lanes had been established.
