[06-26-2023] San Bernardino County, CA – Two People Killed, One Injured Following Multi-Vehicle Collision in Cajon Pass

Two people were killed and one injured following a multi-vehicle collision in Cajon Pass, San Bernardino County, on Monday morning, June 26, 2023.

The California Highway Patrol and San Bernardino Fire Department were dispatched to an accident on northbound Interstate 15 near the Kenwood Avenue exit at approximately 3:49 a.m. The collision involved three vehicles, with one completely engulfed in flames.

Authorities have reported that the cars involved include a white Toyota Highlander with damage in the front end, a suspected white Nissan Versa that caught fire and had significant damage to its rear end, and a black Buick Verano with severe damage to its front end.

Officials said the Buick collided with the Nissan in a dark area of I-15 less than a minute after the Toyota and the same Nissan crashed. The impact from the Buick caused the Nissan to burst into flames, resulting in the tragic deaths of two individuals at the scene.

One individual with two dogs was reportedly taken to the hospital with minor to significant injuries, including a shoulder injury. Officials said the identity of the victims will be withheld until the next-of-kin notification.

No further details were released, and it is unknown whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the collision.
