[07-07-2023] Elderly Man Killed, Four Others Injured After Suspected DUI Multi-Vehicle Crash Along Jamacha RoadAn 80-year-old man was killed, and four others were injured after a suspected DUI multi-vehicle crash in the Rancho San Diego area, San Diego County, on Friday afternoon, July 7, 2023.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the three-vehicle collision occurred around 4:35 p.m. at Cuyamaca College Drive West and Jamacha Road.

Authorities believe a black Honda Civic driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol when they ran a red light at the intersection of State Route 54 and Cuyamaca College Drive.

Officials said, based on the footage taken from the Tesla involved in the collision, the vehicle was trying to go straight while passing stopped traffic and moving through the right turn lane. The Honda Civic then struck a black Nissan and a white Tesla, both attempting to make a left turn into a shopping center.

CHP reported that the 80-year-old rear passenger of the Black Nissan died at the scene, the driver sustained unknown injuries, and the front passenger was transported to the hospital with severe injuries.

Officials added the driver of the Honda Civic sustained severe injuries, while the driver of the Tesla sustained minor injuries.

No further details were released, and anyone who witnessed the collision is encouraged to contact the authorities immediately. The investigation is ongoing.
