A driver was killed, and his three passengers, including two children, were severely injured after their car crashed into a parked big-rig trailer in Modesto on Sunday morning, July 9, 2023.
According to the California Highway Patrol and Modesto Fire Department, the injury crash with a pin-in occurred around 4:17 a.m., on McClure Road north of Leckron Road, by the Modesto & Empire Traction Co. rail yard.
Authorities stated that the driver of a 2014 Scion XB was heading north when, for reasons currently unknown, he veered into the southbound lane and collided with a large truck trailer parked on the side of the road. The CHP has stated that they called for a wrecker tow truck to remove the trailer from the passenger vehicle.
Officials said the driver of the Scion, a 34-year-old man from Modesto, was pronounced dead at the scene, while a 29-year-old female passenger from Modesto was transported to Memorial Medical Center.
Officials added that the children passengers, a 9-year-old girl, was flown to UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, and a 5-year-old girl was flown to Valley Children’s Hospital in Madera.
No further details were released, and the CHP has stated that it is currently unknown whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.
The investigation into the collision is ongoing.
