What To Do After A Head-On Crash

A head-on collision can cause life-altering injuries or the sudden loss of a loved one. The aftermath may be confusing and emotional, especially when the cause of the crash is still under investigation. Taking the right steps may help protect your health, preserve important information, and support any future decisions.

  1. Get Medical Attention Immediately
If you or someone else has been injured, seek medical care as soon as possible. Some injuries may not be visible right away, and early evaluation can help ensure appropriate treatment and create a record of what occurred.
  2. Request The Accident Report
Law enforcement typically prepares an official report following serious crashes. Contact the California Highway Patrol or the local agency that responded to find out how to obtain a copy.
  3. Save Any Available Evidence
Photos of the vehicles, the road, or your injuries, along with names of witnesses or passengers, can be helpful. Keep personal belongings or paperwork related to the crash in a safe place.
  4. Document Your Expenses
Track medical bills, transportation costs, missed work, or other financial impacts. Keeping a record of these expenses may support insurance claims or other next steps.
  5. Be Cautious With Insurance Companies
You may be contacted by insurers soon after the crash. Before providing statements or accepting any offers, consider speaking with a lawyer to understand how your choices may affect your legal options.
  6. Speak With A Car Accident Lawyer
A lawyer can help you understand your rights and what steps may be available. Legal guidance may also assist in organizing records, answering questions, and providing clarity during a difficult and uncertain time.
