Fatal Two-Vehicle Collision Statistics

Accidents involving a motor vehicle can occur at any time or location. Every sixty seconds, a car accident occurs somewhere in the United States. It’s impossible to prevent accidents when so many people are on the road at once.

The most common cause of death and serious injury in the United States is car accidents. Automobile accidents cause injury or death to about two million people each year. There were 36,560 people killed in car accidents last year, according to the US Department of Transportation’s Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS).

The roads in California are some of the most congested in the country. Traffic jams, bottlenecks, and (most importantly) car accidents are inevitable when so many vehicles are on the road. One of the most common causes of fatal injuries in the Golden State is vehicular accidents.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 3,304 people died in car accidents in California in 2017.

Poor road conditions, impaired or distracted drivers, a lack of adequate street lighting, and even the weather itself can be factors in traffic accidents.
