According to the California Highway Patrol, one person is dead after a car hit a passenger that fell out of the vehicle on state Highway 24 in Orinda late Friday evening, July 15, 2022.
According to CHP, the crash transpired at around 11:07 p.m. on the eastbound lanes of Highway 24 west of the exit for Orinda and Moraga.
The initial investigation indicates that a passenger traveling in a vehicle fell out before being struck by another vehicle and killed. The initial classification of the collision was vehicle-versus-pedestrian.
The right front passenger of an Infinity sedan was traveling east on Highway 24 when he partially extended himself outside the car, according to information from the investigation, the CHP spokesperson said. The passenger was then struck by a different passing car after he fell from the moving car and landed in the freeway’s travel lanes.
At the scene, the man was pronounced dead.
