What to Do After a Car Accident

In an accident, a car, truck, or SUV may flip onto its roof or side, causing a rollover collision. This collision is highly dangerous and can lead to severe injuries or fatalities. Rollover collisions are hazardous because they often cause occupants to be ejected from the vehicle or experience crushing injuries. In the aftermath of a serious crash involving a rollover, it’s essential to take the following steps:

  1. Keep calm: it’s essential to remain as calm as possible to ensure your safety and the safety of others.
  2. Get to a safe location: Move your vehicle to a secure location off the road if possible.
  3. Call 911: If anyone is injured or has significant vehicle damage, call 911 immediately.
  4. Provide information: Provide information to the other driver, including their name, phone number, insurance information, and license plate number.
  5. Do Not Admit the Fault: Do not admit guilt even if you believe you were at fault for the accident. Admitting fault could harm your case later on.
  6. Immediately following an accident, you should seek medical attention. Some injuries are not immediately apparent and could worsen over time.
  7. Report to Your Insurance Company: They can guide you through the claims process and help you understand your coverage.
  8. Speak to insurance adjusters: Be truthful and cooperative when speaking to insurance adjusters, but do not provide any recorded statements without consulting a lawyer.
  9. Create a file: Keep a file of all documents related to the accident, including police reports, medical records, and bills.
  10. Call an Accident Lawyer: A California car accident lawyer can help protect your rights and ensure you receive fair compensation for your injuries and losses.

Fatal Rollover Crash Statistics

In a rollover collision, a car turns over onto its side or top. Rollover collisions result in more fatalities than other types of crashes. Around 3% of all car crashes, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, involve rollovers. About 35% of all fatalities in passenger vehicles result from rollovers or tip-overs.

Excessive speed is the leading cause of rollover accidents involving one or multiple vehicles. A high-speed collision between two moving objects is almost undoubtedly hazardous. A prudent and well-prepared driver may still experience a rollover collision.

Maintaining composure is essential when dealing with a rollover because if you make abrupt movements or overcorrect, you risk tilting the vehicle too far in the opposite direction. If everything proceeds according to plan, your vehicle will automatically adjust itself. Wait until the vehicle has stopped before attempting to leave.
