Multi-Vehicle Collision Statistics

American roads, which have some of the worst traffic in the world, are plagued by congestion. The nation has about 280 million registered cars, and 227.5 million people drive them daily.

There are at least six million car accidents nationwide each year. Traffic accidents are the leading cause of death in the United States, where they claim the lives of over 38,000 people annually.

Several-vehicle collisions are one instance of this. A “multi-vehicle collision” is one in which three or more vehicles are involved. When two cars collide, and one of them hits the other on the highway, it’s called a “chain-reaction crash.”

On American roads, car accidents result in millions of injuries and tens of thousands of fatalities each year. These collisions frequently result from drunk driving, driving too fast, and distracted driving.
