[07-21-2023] Sacramento County, CA – Pit Bull Attack Leaves 73-Year-Old Mail Carrier Injured in North Highlands

A 73-year-old mail carrier suffered injuries after being attacked by a pit bull in North Highlands, Sacramento County, on Friday, July 21, 2023.

According to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred near the intersection of Roseville and Walerga Roads.

The mailman was delivering mail when the dog attacked him. The dog’s owner intervened to stop the attack. A passerby who witnessed the incident promptly called 911 and tried to assist the mailman.

The older man injured his face, feet, and arms following the incident. Fortunately, he was transported to the hospital and will not require surgery for his injuries from the attack.

First responders attended to both the mailman’s and the dog owner’s injuries, though it’s unclear what injuries the dog’s owner sustained.

The pit bull responsible for the attack is now in the custody of animal control and will reportedly be euthanized.

The investigation is ongoing.
