Pedestrian Accident Statistics

Trains are an efficient form of transportation for both people and goods. The ability of the conductors, proper maintenance, and other factors affect everyone’s safety, including passengers and non-passengers. These individuals might take short cuts or behave carelessly, which causes harm.

The National Transportation Safety Bureau estimates that in the United States, a train collides with at least one person or vehicle every two hours. Each year, train accidents result in the deaths of more than 1,000 people. These mishaps resulted in 600 fatalities and approximately 2,300 injuries.

More than half of all fatal train collisions occur at crossings that lack active safety technology, insufficient safety gear, or warning systems for unwary motorists.

The National Transportation Safety Board reports that drivers are significantly outnumbered by pedestrians when it comes to train fatalities.

Since 1997, there have been about 7,200 fatal train accidents involving Americans. Train-pedestrian collisions are currently the main reason for fatalities on American railroads.

Derailments, shoddy track maintenance, noncompliance with safety regulations, insufficient security, and other types of negligence are the most frequent causes of train accidents.
