Fatal Bicycle Accident Statistics
Most Californians are familiar with traffic and safety rules and frequently use bicycles for transportation, exercise, and recreation.
Every cyclist in California has a legal right to feel safe using the roads. Unfortunately, there is not enough respect between cyclists and the drivers of other vehicles on the road.
Cycling in California can be challenging due to the state’s congested roads. Drivers of passenger cars, commercial trucks, and buses frequently miss seeing cyclists sharing a traffic lane or traveling in a designated bike lane.
In the nation, California has the most bicycle fatalities. From 2016 to 2018, traffic accidents in California claimed the lives of more than 400 cyclists.
Cycling accidents can be made more likely by various factors, such as bad weather, rough terrain, bike lanes, and heavy or fast traffic.
Helmets can significantly impact the outcome of a collision, even though they cannot prevent accidents. Not wearing a helmet increases the risk of serious injuries, such as traumatic brain injuries.
