Truck Accident Statistics

Commercial trucks, such as big rigs and delivery trucks, pose special hazards to smaller vehicles and passengers. Truck drivers must be aware of the hazards posed by their large, unwieldy vehicles, and other drivers must exercise extreme caution in their presence. Minor mistakes, such as failing to signal before changing lanes, can lead to disaster when an eighteen-wheeler is involved, especially at high speeds.

Truck accident rates are frequently high in California because of the state’s large population. California is frequently a national leader in data about car crashes and their victims. In San Diego, truck accidents that end in injury or death are not rare. Over the last few years, recorded crashes have progressively increased.

According to California Highway Patrol data, San Diego, Oceanside, and Chula Vista are the top three cities in San Diego County for truck accidents. San Diego has the most people. Therefore, it’s no surprise that it has the most overall crashes and injuries on the list, with over 49,000 motor vehicle accidents.
