Fatal Bicycle Accident Statistics

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the number of fatal bicycle accidents fell by 3% this year, from 871 to 846. 80% of traffic fatalities involved bicycles, with motor vehicles accounting for just 2 percent of all fatalities.

In the state of California, bicycles are considered to be motor vehicles. The same regulations apply when you’re driving a car or riding a bike. These people must ride straight, stop at all red lights, and adhere to all other traffic laws.

Many motorists who drive dangerously close to cyclists disregard their rights. There is a chance of harm or death.

More people have died while bicycling in California than in any other state in the US. It is not surprising that collisions between these two modes of transportation occur so frequently in cities, where they occur at the highest rate. In California, 455 cyclists died between 2016 and 2018.
