Motorcycle Accident Statistics
According to statistics published by the Insurance Information Institute, motorcycle accidents in the United States are generally quite serious. More than 5,000 people died in motorcycle accidents in 2018.
What exactly is it about riding a motorcycle that is so dangerous? This alarmingly high fatality rate is the result of many things. A major concern is a lack of security.
Despite a 5% decrease from 2017, motorcycle riders were still 27 times more likely to die in a car accident per mile traveled than passengers in passenger cars.
In a motorcycle accident, many different things can go wrong. Even when moving at a low speed, a driver can sustain minor injuries if they make a sharp turn too quickly and hit the gravel. Motorcycle accidents can occur at higher speeds due to poor road conditions and vehicle failure.
The posted speed limit must always be adhered to by motorcycle riders. Driving at the posted speed limit can be dangerous due to the condition of the roads. Drive more slowly when there is poor visibility or slick weather, such as rain, snow, sleet, or hail.
Motorcycle riders should also put on the necessary protective gear. Riders should always wear a proper helmet, riding boots, gloves, and leather clothing. You can be sure that the equipment you get when you buy from a store fits you perfectly. A manufacturer’s warranty will also shield you. The equipment you purchase online or through resale may not be covered by these safeguards.
