Fatal Motorcycle Accident Statistics
Due to the lack of seatbelts and airbags that car passengers have, motorcycle riders are more likely to suffer injuries or pass away in an accident.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), motorcycles have a 16-times higher injury and a 35-times higher fatality rate than passenger vehicles. These numbers are typically higher among new bikers. Each year, motorcycle accidents result in the deaths of hundreds of people and injuries of tens of thousands more.
Motorcycle collisions can result in fatalities or extremely serious injuries. According to data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there were 5,286 fatal motorcycle accidents in the United States in 2016.
Distracted driving, speeding, intoxicated driving, reckless driving, inclement weather, driving in the wrong direction, and disobeying traffic laws are all common factors in motorcycle accidents.
