[07-28-2023] Several People Injured, One Severely, After DUI Accident on Highway 99 in Fruitridge RoadSeveral individuals, including one motorist in critical condition, were injured after a DUI vehicle collision in Sacramento County on Friday evening, July 28, 2023.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred around 10:45 p.m. on northbound Highway 99, just north of Fruitridge Road.

A teenage driver allegedly sideswiped a 2019 Toyota driven by a 20-year-old woman from Orangevale. The impact of the crash caused the BMW to veer sideways and collide with a 2020 Dodge driven by a 27-year-old man from Modesto, resulting in both vehicles catching fire.

The Dodge then struck a 2015 Lexus in the adjacent lane, driven by a 31-year-old woman from Modesto.

Emergency responders promptly arrived at the scene after seeing the flames and assisted. The driver of the Dodge was taken to the hospital in critical condition, and the drivers of the Lexus and Toyota sustained minor injuries and were treated at the accident site.

The BMW driver was apprehended on suspicion of driving under the influence, causing injuries.
