[07-29-2023] Tehama County, CA – Five People, Including One Child, Killed Following Head-On Two-Vehicle Collision in Corning

Five people, including a child, were killed following a head-on collision between two vehicles in Corning on Saturday afternoon, July 29, 2023.

The California Highway Patrol responded to the accident on southbound Interstate 5 near Liberal Avenue around 12:44 p.m.

As a silver 2003 Infiniti crossed the median for unknown reasons, it collided head-on with a 2016 Dodge Ram Truck towing a travel trailer. The passengers of the Infiniti were ejected from the vehicle.

Two Morgan Hill residents were in the truck, the 52-year-old male driver and his 48-year-old female passenger. The 46-year-old man driving the sedan and his passengers, a 47-year-old man, a 36-year-old woman, and an 8-year-old girl, were all ejected after not wearing seatbelts.

The driver of the Dodge Ram, identified as recently retired San Jose Police Captain Randall S., 52, and all occupants of the Infiniti were pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger in the Dodge Ram, the officer’s wife, sustained major injuries and was sent to a local hospital.

The authorities released no other details as their investigation into the crash continues.
