[07-30-2023] San Diego County, CA – 16-Year-Old Skateboarder Fatally Struck by Car on Route 79 near Warner Springs

A 16-year-old skateboarder was killed after being struck by an SUV on Route 79 in San Diego County on Sunday evening, July 30, 2023.

According to a California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred at approximately 8:00 p.m. in Holcomb Village on State Route 79 near Warner Springs.

Based on the report, a 74-year-old resident of Warner Springs was driving south on SR-79, north of Peralta Drive, when his Mitsubishi Outlander collided with the skateboarder traveling north in the southbound lane.

CHP officer Jared Grieshaber stated the driver could not avoid the skateboarder.

The young skateboarder, a Warner Springs resident, was rushed to a hospital but tragically succumbed to his injuries. The name of the teenager has not been disclosed.

The SUV driver was unharmed, including her 70-year-old female passenger.

The investigation is ongoing.
