According to the California Highway Patrol, a fiery crash involving at least six cars at an intersection in Los Angeles’ Windsor Hills area killed at least six people, including a baby and a pregnant woman, and injured eight others on Thursday, August 04, 2022
New surveillance footage of the crash shows a seemingly normal intersection with a proper traffic flow before a black Mercedes plowing through a red light like a rocket.
The collision occurred just before 2 p.m. on La Brea and Slauson avenues.
According to the CHP, four to five people, including a baby and a pregnant woman, were killed in the crash and fires.
According to authorities, six children and two adults were injured. On the scene, the five dead were declared.
The CHP issued an update around 8 p.m., stating that an additional body had been discovered in one of the vehicles engulfed in flames, bringing the total number of fatalities to six.
Two of the three burned cars halted before a gas station sign. Another appeared to have rolled onto its roof near the community’s entrance to the gas station about 10 miles southwest of downtown Los Angeles.
A witness video showed a column of black smoke rising from one of the cars.
Another witness stated that one of the drivers appeared to be making a left turn before the collision.
The intersection, where several ambulances were parked, was littered with debris.
MULTI-VEHICLE CRASH STATISTICS
The number of traffic accidents increases as the state’s economy grows. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 3,304 people were killed in car accidents in 2010.
In California, driving a car can be extremely dangerous. The drivers could have done more to avoid these collisions. More than 94 percent of all accidents occur due to human error.
Depending on its severity, a car accident injury can be painful or even fatal. Because car accidents happen so frequently, it’s easy for drivers to lose sight of the dangers they pose.
When three or more vehicles collide, it is called a multi-vehicle accident. When two cars collide head-on, they can cause a pileup of up to six cars.
Over 13,000 people died in multi-vehicle collisions in 2010, according to a new NHTSA study.
LOS ANGELES COUNTY CAR ACCIDENT LAWYERS
The fact that only two people are involved in a two-vehicle crash makes prosecution easier. The situation becomes more complicated when more than one vehicle is involved in a collision.
It is more difficult to pinpoint who is to blame. Many people could have been injured if more than one vehicle had collided.
Because determining fault in a multi-vehicle collision can be difficult, you may not want to put your trust in an insurance company. Insurance companies prioritize their financial well-being over the interests of their clients, so don’t expect your claim to be resolved quickly.
