[08-04-2022] Santa Cruz County, CA - A 24-year-old Woman Killed and a 4-year-old Child was Critically Injured in a Pedestrian Accident on River StreetA 24-year-old woman died, and a 4-year-old child sustained severe injuries after being fatally hit by a passing vehicle on River Street on Thursday morning.

The accident happened around 12:45 a.m. on Highway 1 at River Street.

The child was treated at a nearby hospital and is in critical condition.

According to local authorities, the two were residents of a homeless shelter home.

Detectives had not yet established whether the woman and child crossed the street at the intersection’s single crosswalk or against the light.

The vehicle involved was a Kia Sedan, driving north on Highway 1 when it collided.

Police do not believe the driver was intoxicated or careless.
