[08-05-2023] Los Angeles County, CA – Two People Died, Three Others Critically Injured Following Boat Fire in Long Beach

Two people died, and three others were critically injured following a boat fire in Long Beach early Friday evening, August 05, 2023.

According to the Long Beach Fire Department, the fire happened around 5:17 p.m. in Alamitos Bay, near the 200 block of Marina Drive.

A 35-foot pleasure craft exploded and caught fire. Five people were found at the scene, all in their 60s.

Two women were declared dead and three people, two men and a woman, suffered critical burn-related injuries and were airlifted to the hospital.

The boat was reportedly being fueled when it ignited, but authorities have not yet determined the cause of the fire. An investigation is currently underway.

In 2016, the California State Parks Division of Boating and Waterways reported that the Northern California region experienced 266 boating accidents, resulting in 150 injuries and 36 fatalities.
