Fatal Two-Vehicle Collision Statistics

Every sixty seconds, a car accident happens somewhere in the United States. Millions of vehicles travel across American highways every day, which is hardly surprising.

Traffic jams, gridlock, and (most seriously) car accidents with fatal and catastrophic injuries are inevitable when so many vehicles use the same roads.

There were a reported 10,897 collisions on the city’s roads between 2003 and 2016, including fatalities and crashes involving serious injury. At least 15,000 people suffered various injuries, and at least 270 died during this time.

An estimated 35.5 percent of traffic accidents involved collisions, the majority of which happened on state highways. These car accidents happen for a variety of reasons, but the main ones are drivers who are intoxicated, distracted, driving over the speed limit, or driving against other traffic laws.

Accidents on the road can be tragic and life-altering. Because car accidents are so common in our lives, drivers frequently fail to realize how dangerous they can become. They also often underestimate how easily severe and even fatal car accidents can occur.
