FATAL MULTI-VEHICLE CRASH STATISTICS
Congestion is a significant issue on American roads, which are among the most congested in the world. There are 280 million registered cars in the United States, and 227.5 million people drive them daily.
Every year, at least six million people are injured or killed in car accidents in the United States. Car accidents kill over 38,000 people each year, making them the leading cause of death in the country.
An accident involving multiple vehicles would be an example of this. A multiple vehicle collision occurs when three or more vehicles collide. When two cars collide on the road, and a third car strikes the first, the accident is called a “chain reaction.”
According to a recent National Highway Traffic Safety Administration study, more than 13,000 people were killed in multi-vehicle collisions involving passenger vehicles (NHTSA). These incidents cause more than 40% of all car accidents.
