DUI Accident Statistics

A fundamental human right is the safety of the roads. Others’ lives are in danger because of drunk drivers. The country has strict laws to lower the number of drunk driving incidents.

It is negligent in operating a vehicle while intoxicated. Any driver who decides to get behind the wheel after drinking puts everyone on the road in danger of harm or death.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that 10,000 people die in drunk driving collisions yearly. Alcohol or other drugs are responsible for about 18% of fatal car accidents.

Every year, over 2,000 people are fatally injured, and over 30,000 are seriously injured in car accidents involving alcohol or drugs in California. The blood alcohol content (BAC) standards used by the state to define DUI and DWI (driving while intoxicated) vary depending on the driver’s age and the type of vehicle being operated.

Drunk drivers frequently have trouble seeing, making wise choices, and reacting properly in hazardous situations. Along California’s most hazardous roads, drunk drivers pose an even greater threat to public safety due to their diminished senses and mental state as they navigate these dangerous road obstacles.
