According to the California Highway Patrol, two people, including a Caltrans engineer, were killed in a two-vehicle crash in a rural area South of Mendota on Monday, August 8, 2022.
The collision occurred just before midnight at California and San Diego Avenues, south of Mendota.
Although the speed of a 25-year-old man driving a Nissan Altima north on San Diego Avenue is unknown, the California Highway Patrol claims that he ran the stop sign at California Avenue.
Marquis P., a 25-year-old man, has been named. His Nissan struck the driver’s side of a Caltrans truck with its front end.
Seat belts did not restrain both drivers. Both victims of blunt trauma passed away.
Later, Caltrans revealed that their employee was civil engineer Ali Shabazz, age 48.
Investigations into the crash’s cause are ongoing.
