[08-10-2022] Stanislaus County, CA - 17-Year-Old Teen Injured in Pedestrian Crash Near Orestimba High SchoolAuthorities reported that a 17-year-old boy had to be airlifted to a hospital after a pedestrian accident in Newman on Wednesday morning, August 10, 2022.

The crash occurred just before 8:00 a.m. at Kern and S streets.

A Toyota sedan driver driving east on Kern ran a stop sign as the boy was in a crosswalk.

According to Newman police Lt. Brett Short, the Toyota struck the boy at a speed of about 25 mph.

Short stated that the teen was transported by helicopter to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto with moderate injuries, possibly including a head injury.

The Toyota’s driver, a 20-year-old man who the police did not name, pulled over.

According to Short, there was no evidence of the use of drugs or alcohol or distracted driving prior to the collision.

Short stated that the driver “mentioned that the morning sun was impairing his vision at the time of the collision.

The motorist was not detained. He was properly licensed and insured.
