[08-10-2023] Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Suspected DUI Driver at Harbor GatewayA pedestrian was struck by a BMW SUV driven by a suspected DUI driver in the Harbor Gateway area in Los Angeles late Thursday evening, August 10, 2023.

According to the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Carson deputies and California Highway Patrol South Los Angeles officers, the male driver was traveling northbound at the intersection of Vermont Avenue and Knox Street when the incident occured at 10:45 p.m.

Authorities did not specify the exact cause of what led to the collision. But the driver was suspected to be driving under the influence.

Upon the arrival of emergency respondents, the male pedestrian was found lying on the northbound lanes unresponsive and was shortly pronounced dead on the site.

The impact of the collision left the Beige BMW with frontal damage.

The driver stayed on the scene and cooperated with authorities accordingly. He was then placed into custody.
