[08-10-2026] Sacramento County, CA – Construction Worker Killed After Being Hit By Suspected Impaired Driver on Highway 50

A road construction worker was killed after being struck by a suspected impaired driver on Highway 50 in Sacramento early Monday morning, August 10, 2026.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. on eastbound Highway 50 at Stockton Boulevard, where crews were working on the Fix 50 project.

CHP said a woman driving a vehicle entered a closed freeway lane and struck a work vehicle occupied by two people.

The vehicle then struck a construction worker, knocking him from the Highway 50 overpass onto Stockton Boulevard. The worker was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not released his identity pending notification of his family.

CHP officials said alcohol was believed to be a factor in the collision. The driver allegedly attempted to flee following the crash but was taken into custody. Additional information regarding her arrest was not immediately available.

The investigation is ongoing.
