Two people were killed, while four others were injured after a two-vehicle head-on collision in Lancaster on Sunday afternoon, August 13, 2023.
According to the Los Angeles County Fire Department, the incident occurred on Avenue E, near 50th Street East, at around 12:43 p.m.
There were a large number of first responders present at the scene. The officers found a dark-colored sedan that was nearly totaled, and right off the road was a lighter-colored vehicle, possibly a pickup truck, flipped over with debris all around it.
An investigation is underway to determine what caused the crash and if drugs or alcohol played a role.
Two victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while two others were in critical condition, and the remaining two sustained minor injuries. The four survivors were taken to Antelope Valley Medical Center.
No information was released regarding the identities of the people involved.

Fatal Car Accident Statistics
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 42,795 people died in traffic accidents in 2022. Compared to the 42,939 fatalities in 2021, this is a small drop of 0.3%. From 1.37 fatalities per 100 million vehicle miles (VMT) in 2021, the estimated mortality rate dropped to 1.35 fatalities in 2022.
