MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT STATISTICS

Motorcycle accidents frequently result in fatalities or severe injuries. Motorcycle mishaps are more likely to cause deaths and permanently disabling injuries than collisions involving other vehicles. They must deal with everything from head and brain injuries to road rash daily.

Even though motorcycles make up a relatively small percentage of overall vehicle sales, motorcycle accidents account for a sizable number of all traffic fatalities in the United States. Even when no one is killed, motorcycle accidents can significantly negatively impact the health and well-being of victims.

Since the early 1980s, the number of motorcycle fatalities had been dropping, but starting in 1998, they began to rise and remained constant until 2008.

According to the latest statistics, there were 79,000 injuries and 5,115 fatalities related to motorcycle accidents in 2019. Only 0.6% of all vehicle miles in the US are driven on motorcycles, while only 3% of registered cars are motorcycles.

Of the 8.6 million motorbikes registered in the US, just 14% of traffic deaths, 17% of occupant fatalities, and 3% of all injuries were brought on by motorcyclists.

Many motorcycle accidents can be prevented by exercising caution, donning the proper safety gear, and avoiding the blind spots of larger vehicles.
