[08-18-2022] Fresno County, CA - Woman Killed in Multi-Vehicle Collision in FresnoAccording to the California Highway Patrol, a collision between two larger vehicles resulted in a woman’s death and a small car being mangled in southwest Fresno Thursday afternoon, August 18, 2022.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 3:15 p.m. on Church Avenue between West and Hughes avenues.

According to CHP, a full-size SUV, the Cadillac Escalade, struck a small Kia from the back. A GMC van, also much bigger than the Kia, struck the Kia from the front.

According to CHP, a man and a woman were in a Kia that had stopped on Church Avenue’s westbound lanes just before the collision as they prepared to turn left into their home.

Then the Cadillac Escalade hit them from behind.

Due to the collision, the Kia moved into the oncoming traffic lane and the path of a 63-year-old man and a 62-year-old woman driving a GMC.

The Escalade ultimately crushed the Kia from behind, and the head-on collision with the GMC van severely damaged the front.

The Kia’s 31-year-old female passenger was taken to Fresno Community Regional Medical Center but passed away.

The reason the Escalade’s 41-year-old driver did not try to avoid hitting Kia’s rear was not known, according to the CHP.

According to the CHP, an investigation found that everyone involved was using a seat belt at the time of the collision, and there was no indication that drugs or alcohol were involved.

Fatal Multi-Vehicle Crash Statistics

The United States has some of the most crowded roads in the world. This is a big problem. Every day, 227.5 million people use the 280 million cars and trucks on the roads in the United States.

Every year, there are six million car accidents in the United States. Every year, 38,000 people die in traffic accidents in the United States. This is more than any other cause of death in the country.

A crash involving more than one car is an example of this. In a “multi-vehicle accident,” at least three cars are hurt. Accidents happen when two cars hit each other and start a chain reaction.

A recent National Highway Traffic Safety Administration study found that more than 13,000 people died in crashes involving more than one passenger car. These kinds of accidents make up more than 40% of all accidents on the road.
