SINGLE-VEHICLE CRASH STATISTICS
Many drivers are unaware that single-vehicle collisions are among California’s most dangerous types of vehicle accidents.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 62% of all fatal vehicle collisions in California involve a single vehicle (NHTSA). Because of California’s serious single-vehicle accidents, drivers must be aware of the various contributing factors.
A single-vehicle collision can occur for a variety of reasons. A run-off-the-road collision occurs when a driver loses control of their vehicle while speeding or making sudden turns on a slick, wet road. There could be debris on the road, such as a large branch or something that fell off a truck.
In a single-car accident that wasn’t your fault or the fault of another driver, such as when a deer ran in front of your car, your comprehensive coverage plan will almost certainly limit your recovery.
SANTA BARBARA COUNTY CAR ACCIDENT LAWYERS
Many car accident victims cannot return to work or school because of their injuries. Even if a victim dies, a negligent driver remains liable. Victim’s heirs may file a wrongful death claim against the negligent driver who caused their death (or legal heirs).
It is painful for them to go through their losses and grief again. Victims must testify about their failures in front of strangers in depositions and trials. If a case takes months or even years to resolve, one’s mental health may suffer significantly.
It is critical to hold negligent drivers accountable if they cause an accident. Accountability is vital when negligence results in an unnecessarily high death toll. Wrongful death claims can be emotionally draining for bereaved families, but they can also provide closure. This will benefit every driver in California.
