[08-24-2025] San Diego County, CA – Pedestrian Seriously Injured in Vista Road-Rage Incident Involving Two SUVs

A pedestrian sustained serious injuries during an apparent road-rage incident in Vista on Sunday, August 24, 2025.

According to the San Diego Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred near Calle Jules and Via Felicidad when a Toyota Sequoia, driven by 41-year-old Lindsey B., allegedly pursued a Jeep Cherokee operated by 42-year-old Nathan R. through a residential neighborhood.

During the chase, the Sequoia struck the pedestrian and several parked vehicles before colliding head-on with another car, leaving the vehicle inoperable.

Authorities reported that Lindsey exited her disabled vehicle, entered Nathan’s SUV, and allegedly sped away. Emergency medical personnel transported the injured pedestrian to a hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

Lindsey and Nathan were arrested on Wednesday near Mission Bay and booked into the county jail on suspicion of multiple criminal charges, including assault with a deadly weapon and hit-and-run causing injury. The nature of their relationship is not yet known.

Authorities continue to investigate the incident.

In 2023, there were 7,314 pedestrian deaths reported in the United States. These fatalities made up about 18 percent of all deaths caused by traffic crashes. Since 2009, when pedestrian deaths were at their lowest, the number has increased by 78 percent.

One out of every four pedestrian deaths in 2023 happened in a hit-and-run crash. From 2014 to 2019, hit-and-run incidents were involved in about 20 percent of all pedestrian fatalities. That number rose to 24 percent in 2020 and has slowly increased to 25 percent since then.

Over the long term, pedestrian death rates have gone down for most age groups. From 1975 to 2023, children under 13 saw the biggest improvement, with a 93 percent drop in their death rate. Teens between 13 and 19 had a 71 percent decline, and adults 70 and older saw a 73 percent decrease. However, pedestrians between the ages of 20 and 44 were the only group whose death rate increased during this time, rising by 6 percent.
