What To Do After A Car Accident in Huntington Beach, CA

Nobody can predict a vehicle collision, but you can be prepared. A car accident checklist can help you stay organized and calm following a collision. It explains what to do, what not to do, and how to safeguard your rights. You are not alone following a crash, regardless of its severity.

If you are the injured person or a family member of a deceased victim, here’s what you should do after a car accident:

  1. Stay on the scene and check for injuries. First, examine yourself, then check on others involved. Maintain your composure and try to regain your calm.
  2. Report the accident to the authorities as soon as possible. The police will document the incident and collect information for official records.
  3. If possible, relocate your vehicle to the side of the road and activate your emergency flashers to inform other drivers. Find a safe location to wait for the authorities.
  4. Share the names, phone numbers, and insurance information with the other driver(s). If possible, take pictures of the vehicles involved, license plates, and other important information.
  5. When speaking with the police or other parties involved, avoid admitting fault or apologizing. Stick to the facts when discussing the incident.
  6. Visit a hospital or your main doctor right away. Prompt medical care can help reduce the severity of an injury and discover internal injuries.
  7. Contact your insurer immediately and follow the agent’s instructions. In California, there are deadlines for reporting accidents.
  8. You may receive a call from the other party’s insurer shortly after the collision. Be cautious about the information you provide. Avoid providing recorded statements or accepting settlement offers without consulting an attorney first.
  9. Keep all accident-related documents, such as police reports, hospital bills, and other vital information, organized in a file.
  10. If you have any doubts, please call us at (888) 488-1391 for a free consultation. We can review your case, assist you with insurance discussions, and, if necessary, file a personal injury claim. Our California car accident lawyers are here to help and answer your concerns.
