Fatal Motorcycle Crash Accident Statistics

One common form of transportation is the motorcycle, which can be fun to ride. But if you’re planning to get on your motorcycle, there are some things you should know.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has released its latest Fatal Motorcycle Crash Statistics Report, which includes information about the number of fatal motorcycle crashes in the United States during 2017. This data is reported annually by NHTSA.

The NHTSA also notes that motorcycle riders are more likely than other drivers to be injured or killed in an accident because they lack protection from airbags and other safety features found in cars.

In 2017, there were 5,286 fatalities from motorcycle crashes nationwide. This represented an increase of 1% from 2016, when there were 5,185 fatalities from motorcycle crashes in the U.S., and 2% from 2015, when there were 5,120 fatalities from motorcycle crashes in the U.S.

To prevent these accidents from happening, it’s essential for all drivers—especially those who ride motorcycles—to understand how they happen so that they can avoid them.
