Motorcycle Accident Statistics

Motorcycle accidents are all too common. In 2018, there were over 5,000 motorcycle fatalities in the United States alone. While motorcycles can be great fun to ride, they also come with a greater risk of serious injury or death than other vehicles on the road.

Motorcycle accidents can be much more dangerous than accidents involving other vehicles. This is because motorcyclists are less protected than occupants of cars or trucks and are more likely to be ejected from their bikes in a collision. Furthermore, motorcycles are less visible to other drivers, making it harder for them to avoid accidents.

Many different factors can contribute to a motorcycle accident. Some of the most common include:

  • Speeding or driving too fast for conditions
  • Inexperienced riders
  • Distracted driving
  • Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol
  • Poor road conditions
  • Defective motorcycle parts
  • Bad weather can also play a role in motorcycle accidents. For example, wet roads can make it more difficult for motorcycle riders to stop or turn quickly if necessary.
