[09-27-2022] San Bernardino County, CA – 8-Year-Old Boy Bitten by Dog at Unlicensed Daycare in Apple Valley

[09-27-2022] 8-Year-Old Boy Bitten by Dog at Unlicensed Daycare in Apple ValleyAccording to the authorities, a Labrador retriever attacked an 8-year-old boy at home operating an unlicensed daycare, causing injuries in Apple Valley on Tuesday, September 27, 2022.

The incident occurred Tuesday, early afternoon, in a daycare in Apple Valley.

After the attack, Connor was taken by helicopter to Loma Linda University Medical Center, where he had surgery for his serious injuries.

Connor’s mother, Michelle A., said he had been bitten on the face, chest, back, and arm.

Aranda said she believed the daycare worker would keep her son safe.

The daycare owner confirmed the attack and said that San Bernardino Animal Care and Control took the dog from home and that it would be put down.

Checking with the state’s Department of Social Services shows that the home’s request for a daycare license is still being processed.

Connor’s mom said it hurts to see her son in pain, but it hurts, even more, to think about the emotional trauma he has been through.

Aranda said her son is so sad that he doesn’t want to do anything, not even get out of bed.

At this point, there are no charges against the person who runs the daycare. The Animal Care and Control team is looking into it.

Aranda said that it would take Connor a long time to get better, and he will probably need more surgeries. She is now thinking about going to court about the attack.

Dog Bite Injury Statistics

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) say that about 4.5 million dog bites happen yearly in the U.S., and about 800,000 people need medical care. As of 2019, about 328.2 million people were living in the United States. That means that a dog bites one person out of every 73 people.

They have many different ways to attack, such as growling, biting, and knocking someone down. When a dog bites a person, the person gets hurt. Bites can cause serious health problems or even death, such as infection, disfigurement, disability, organ failure, or loss of function.

In 2019, nine people died from dog bites. Of those nine deaths, six happened in California. Thirty-six people were killed by dogs, including 21 children and 15 adults.

Children make up half of the people who get bit by dogs. Most of the time, a dog will attack a child when the child is playing with the dog.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say that almost half of all kids under 12 have been bitten by a dog. When dogs attack children, they usually go for their heads and neck.

Section 3342 of the California Civil Code says that dog owners are responsible for any damage their dogs cause. If a dog attacked you in California but didn’t bite you, you’ll have to show that the dog’s owner was at fault, just like in any other personal injury case.

People should be careful when they pet other dogs, so they don’t get bitten. Some dogs may attack without being provoked, but it’s best to stay calm and avoid touching the dog.
