[10-01-2022] Shasta County, CA – Single-Vehicle Crash Results in Two Injuries on Highway 44

According to the California Highway Patrol, a 22-year-old driver and his passenger were injured in a single-vehicle crash on Highway 44 in Redding Saturday, October 1, 2022.

The crash occurred at around 7:35 p.m. on State Route 44 East to I-5 South, near the area of Hilltop Drive.
Both people were hurt when the car crashed into a tree at high speed.

Matthew D., who lives in Redding, was on the ramp that leads from State Route 44 East to I-5 South near Hilltop Drive when he did what the CHP calls an “unsafe turning movement.”

This caused his car to go off the road and down a grass embankment. Here, Detrant crashed into a tree, which caused him to get very hurt.

Colton B., who lives in Anderson and is 22 years old, was with him and got hurt.

Both people were taken quickly to Mercy Medical Center.

CHP says it doesn’t look like alcohol played a role in the crash. In the same way, both Detrant and Brown were wearing their seatbelts, which kept them from getting hurt more, which could have been fatal.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation.
