[10-02-2025] Kern County, CA โ€“ One Dead, Two Injured After Chevy Silverado Runs Stop Sign and Strikes Impala at Houghton Road and South H Street in Bakersfield

A 26-year-old man was killed, and two others were injured after a white 2008 Chevrolet Silverado ran a stop sign and struck a 2011 Chevrolet Impala in Bakersfield on Thursday morning, October 2, 2025.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 5:18 a.m. at the intersection of Houghton Road and South H Street.

The Impala was westbound on Houghton Road and began a southbound turn onto South H Street when the Silverado, traveling eastbound, failed to stop at the posted stop sign and struck the right side of the Impala. The Silverado overturned, coming to rest on its side in the eastbound lane.

The 33-year-old Impala driver sustained minor injuries, and a 45-year-old passenger was taken to Kern Medical with moderate injuries. The 26-year-old front passenger of the Impala was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Silverado fled on foot and remains outstanding. CHP stated that it is unknown whether alcohol or drugs were factors.

Authorities continue to investigate the collision.
