Steps to Take Following A Car Accident

An automobile collision cannot be predicted, but you can be ready for one. After a collision, keeping a vehicle accident checklist in your glove box might help you remain composed and organized. It can advise you on what to do, what not to do, and the best ways to defend your rights. If you’re unsure, call us. If the worst happens, have our phone number, (888) 488-1391, on your phone or paper. After a serious collision, you are not alone. What you should do is:

  1. Keep Calm: Stay on the scene and make sure everyone is alright. The first thing you should do is check yourself for injuries, and then you should check others. You should remain calm and refrain from admitting fault.
  2. Get to a Safe Location:  If possible, push disabled vehicles to the side of the road. To assist in avoiding more collisions, turn on your emergency flashers. Locate a secure location and wait for the cops.
  3. Call 911: Make a police report about your accident. You should call the police unless your collision was minimal, with no injuries or property damage. Police can record the occurrence, collect data, and add it to a formal record.
  4. Exchange Information: Talk to the other driver(s) involved in the collision and exchange names, numbers, and insurance information. If you can, take pictures of the cars, the license plates, and other important information.
  5. Do Not Admit Fault: Stick to what happened when speaking with a police officer. Be as detailed as possible in your description of the collision.
  6. Seek Medical Attention: Visit the hospital or your primary care physician immediately. Immediate medical attention can lessen the severity of injuries. Tests and scans can detect internal injuries that have yet to manifest symptoms.
  7. Report to Your Insurance Company: Most insurers have time limits for how soon you must report an accident in San Bernardino. Call quickly and follow the agent’s directions for reporting your crash.
  8. Speak to Insurance Adjusters: As soon as the day of your accident, you may receive a phone call from the other party’s insurance company. You may speak to the claims adjuster but only give away the necessary information. Only record a statement or accept an insurance settlement offer once you speak to an attorney.
  9. Create a File: Keep accident-related documents together and organized. Your file should include a copy of the police report, medical bills, the other driver’s information, injury treatment plans, and any other documents you’ve collected regarding the incident.
  10. Call Our Car Accident Law Firm at (888) 488-1391: Speak to our car crash attorneys so you can discuss your accident without risk or obligation. We can determine whether your case has merit, help you talk to insurance companies, and assist you in filing a personal injury claim if necessary.
