[10-06-2022] Two Women Killed in Fatal Head-On Crash Involving 18-Wheeler in RialtoTwo people were killed as one of them attempted to pass an 18-wheeler but instead collided head-on with another driver in Rialto early on Thursday morning, October 6, 2022.

According to a press release from the Rialto Police Department, the crash occurred around 3:00 a.m. in the 3500 block of North Riverside Avenue.

Two vehicles were at the scene when police arrived, and both drivers had serious injuries.

Melissa C., a 22-year-old resident of San Bernardino, was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:10 in the morning, while Crystaline B., a 31-year-old resident of Palmdale, passed away from her injuries at 4:16 a.m. at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center.

According to the preliminary investigation, Castillo attempted to pass a tractor-trailer by crossing the double yellow lines in the middle of the road while speeding southbound on Riverside Avenue close to Ashford Avenue, police said.

The police further reported that Castillo’s vehicle slammed into Bendo’s vehicle, which was traveling north on Riverside when she crossed into oncoming traffic.
