Train Accident Statistics
There should be a greater emphasis on train operators’ accountability for passenger and community safety. The train and railroad industry is notorious for dodging their responsibilities.
The frequency of train accidents in the US is unacceptable. According to the United States Department of Transportation, there are about 5,800 incidents involving train cars every year, most of which take place at railroad crossings. A total of 600 people lost their lives, and another 2,300 were injured as a direct result of these incidents.
According to data published by the Department of Transportation, about 5,800 train-car incidents occur annually in the United States, with most happening at railroad crossings.
California locals have been trying their best to help the environment by minimizing carbon emissions by using public transport. Every time you board the Green Line from Redondo Beach to Lakewood or the Metrolink from Union Station every morning to Orange County, you are putting your trust in a system that can and has failed to protect public safety.
In 2013, 82 people were injured, and 29 were killed in California train accidents, according to data from the Federal Railroad Administration.
Common causes of railway accidents include derailment, poorly maintained tracks, noncompliance with safety requirements, insufficient security, and other careless concerns.
