9 Essential Steps to Take After a Motorcycle Accident in California

You could feel uncertain and bewildered after a motorcycle accident, with many vital questions on your mind. Regardless of the circumstances, you should be aware that you can consult with a California motorcycle accident lawyer immediately to discuss your injuries and the damage to your possessions. It is advantageous to get legal advice as soon as possible.

The following actions need to be taken in California following a motorcycle accident:

  • Stay calm

After a crash, it’s expected to be worried or get furious with the other parties involved. But remember that what you do and say immediately after the accident might not help you later. Don’t admit fault, and maintain your composure.

  • Get to a safe location

Move to the side of the road if you can and wait for the cops. To stop more accidents, you should park your disabled vehicle on the side of the road. If you cannot move it, wait for the police and a tow vehicle.

  • Check for injuries

Check yourself and others for any apparent wounds, such as cuts or fractures. It is your responsibility under the law to stay on the scene until you are sure that no one is hurt or in need of assistance. Make an ambulance call right away. Traumatic brain injuries and spinal cord injuries are examples of severe injuries.

  • Call the police

For an official record, report the accident to the police. Police officers can acquire vital information on the other motorist, the state of the roads, and eyewitness accounts.

  • Gather information

Even if the police officer takes notes, recording your thoughts in writing is still a good idea. Especially if you are not wounded, get information like the name and insurance of the other driver. Have a friend or family member get the information if you need to go to the hospital.

  • Take photographs

Take pictures of the road, your injuries, the other car, and your motorcycle. Take images of anything else significant that may be present, such as a covert stop sign or an obstruction in the road. If it goes to court, the better your case is, the more information you have about your accident.

  • Seek medical attention

After an accident, get to the hospital immediately since you might have missed severe injuries. Your head or brain can suffer damage in motorcycle accidents, and these wounds may not be immediately apparent. Such injuries can be found before it’s too late with hospital diagnostics.

  • Keep documents organized

Create a folder for all the information related to your accident. This may include images, health data, a copy of the police report, witness testimony, and details about the other driver.

Before negotiating compensation with the other party’s insurance provider or initiating legal action, it is beneficial to organize your records.

  • Contact our trusted motorcycle accident firm

A personal injury claim must be filed within two years of the injury date. However, contacting a California motorcycle accident attorney as soon as possible will help safeguard substantial evidence and defend your legal rights.
