[10-07-2023] One Motorcyclist Killed, Another Injured Following Two-Vehicle Collision on I-5A motorcyclist was killed, and another was injured after both collided on I-5 near the Orange County and San Diego County borders on Saturday morning, October 7, 2023.

The California Highway Patrol responded to the collision around 9:20 a.m. on the northbound of I-5, south of the U.S. Border Patrol Checkpoint at San Onofre.

Initial investigation revealed that a 20-year-old on a black Yamaha motorcycle was riding behind a 22-year-old rider on a Honda CBR600 when, for reasons currently unknown, the Yamaha rider slammed into the rear of the Honda, ejecting both riders.

Upon the arrival of emergency teams, the 20-year-old was pronounced dead on the scene, while the 22-year-old was rushed to a nearby hospital to be treated for moderate injuries.

Both motorbike riders were Oceanside residents, but the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the identity of the Yamaha rider pending notification of the next of kin.

Drugs or alcohol were not suspected to have contributed to the crash, according to the CHP, and further investigation into the incident is ongoing.
